merlot-2023
Merlot 2023

In Mainqué, Río Negro, the oldest wine region in Patagonia, there are vineyards over 80 years old that still bear fruit. There, between the "barda" (a type of geological formation) and the river, on soils with a good proportion of clay and silt, grows the Merlot that gives life to this wine.

Mabellini is not a large winery, and it doesn't intend to be. It doesn't buy grapes from anyone: it only harvests what its own vineyards produce, by hand, in small trays, caring for each cluster as if it were the only one. This results in a necessarily small and limited production —a reduced edition each year— that prioritizes quality and identity over volume.

The proximity of the river, the constant winds, and that unique Patagonian light mean that the grapes ripen slowly, gaining concentration without losing freshness. It's a land that gives nothing away easily, but when it does give, it gives with character: wines with good structure, with that minerality so characteristic of young soils next to a river.

It is aged in French oak barrels that add complexity without overpowering the fruit. In the glass, it presents an intense color, with aromas of plum and ripe red berries. On the palate, it is smooth, round, with gentle tannins. An exclusively produced Patagonian Merlot, made with the patience of a family that understands that the best things take generations and are not made in quantity.
